Alex Rodriguez has been playing upright bass for 16 years. Alex is a recent graduate of The University of Mary Washington where he got a degree in Music Technology. During this time, he was the principal bassist for the University of Mary Washington Philharmonic where he performed with many notable musicians like Joshua Bell, Tony Bennett, Jose Carreras. Alex also plays in multiple other ensembles around Virginia and Florida where he has played electric bass, guitar, mandolin, saxophone, and cello along with his primary instrument.
James Forry is the current orchestra director of Massaponax High School in Spotsylvania County Schools. He grew up in York, Pennsylvania and started the cello at age eight. He has studied cello extensively with David Diehl and also at West Virginia University with William Skidmore. James graduated from West Virginia University Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Music Education. He has previously taught in Stafford County for five years directing both Mountain View High School and A.G. Wright Middle School. James has also taught at Randolph-Macon College as their adjunct cello professor from 2007-2011, and has just finished teaching at the University of Mary Washington as their adjunct professor of cello after teaching there for 7 years. James has been teaching at the collegiate level since 2007, and at the public school level since 2006.
James is a current Fredericksburg, Virginia resident and remains actively involved with performing arts at all levels. James performs with the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra serving as Principal Cellist in Warrenton, VA, and is a core member of the Atoka String Quartet. In addition to the aforementioned details, James also does various freelancing around the Fredericksburg, Warrenton, and Northern VA areas including quartets, pit orchestras, weddings, clinics, and private instruction. He is married to his wonderful wife Shannon whom he met in college and have a family of three children, Brooke, Luke, and Claire.
Violin, Viola and Cello Instructor
Kathryn Buchanan is a wife and mother of 4. She is a violinist and has been playing since the age of 10. Currently she is the Orchestra Director at Spotsylvania High School and Post Oak Middle School. She has taught in NC and Fairfax County Public Schools. Kathryn plays for locally in the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra and has played with The University Of Mary Washington Symphony and numerous other local organizations throughout her career as a musician. Kathryn enjoys the outdoors, exercising and being with her family in her free time (when she’s not practicing her violin)!
